Republicans Are Socialists — At Least With Water

Republicans Are Socialists — At Least With Water

Republicans are socialists.

At least when it comes to water.

Uncharitable Democrats would likely call their Republican colleagues shameful hypocrites since, given some of the legislative proposals offered by the majority party, socialism isn’t as nasty a sobriquet as it might be to a GOP lawmaker.

But that’s what the Republicans are — socialists.    Read more »

Gubernatorial Campaign Deja Vu All Over Again

Gubernatorial Campaign Deja Vu All Over Again

So there’s this new GOP candidate for governor, see.

She is encouraged to run by the same folks who encouraged the current occupant of the corner office to run six years ago.

Her message is that what Sacramento really needs is new leadership, leadership California can trust.

It is eerily similar to the same pitch the incumbent governor made in 2003.    Read more »

 09/09/09.

The television news says couples are spending money to lose more in Las Vegas — marriage first, tables later — because 9/09/09 is so lucky.

How many scheduled their nuptials to piggy-back on the deliriously vertiginous biorhythm spikes of 9:09 AM and 9:09 PM?

High Comedy

High Comedy

High isn’t one of the most common words used in the English language.

The Top 10, in descending order, are: the, of, to, and, a, in, is, it, you, that.

High isn’t even on the Top 100 list.

But at 174 it ranks right up there on the Top 500.

High rears up all over the place as a noun, adverb and adjective.    Read more »

Watch Your Back, Jeffe

Watch Your Back, Jeffe

Senate Democrats have been hung out to dry by the Assembly three times in the last two months.

Last month, Senate Democrats passed a politically unpopular measure to allow an expansion of existing offshore oil drilling.  Assembly Democrats rejected it. Also in July, Senate Democrats voted for a politically unpopular bill to take more than $1 billion in gas tax revenues from local governments.    Read more »

Predictable Prison Bill Outcome

Predictable Prison Bill Outcome

Predictable. Almost on every level.

The budget-related measure reducing state prison spending by $524 million was approved by the Senate August 20. Predictable. All 15 Republicans voted against it – predictable — and, given the length of the debate over the already foregone conclusion of the bill’s passage, it felt like all 15 rose to speak against the bill too.    Read more »

RE: Legislative Fundraisers

First, congratulations on another robust year. It appears from the list we’ve been provided, which is somewhat dated, that there are at least 82 legislative fund-raising events during the final month of the Legislature’s 2009 session – 37 events on August 25th and 26th alone!    Read more »
