Not California But Worth Noting…
Winston Churchill gave his first speech as prime minister on May 13, 1940 — eight months after Britain declared war on Germany. Churchill, 65, had been a politician for more than three decades and become a gifted orator. Even so, the House of Commons’ reaction was tepid. A number of members still supported Churchill’s predecessor, Neville Chamberlain, whose resignation led to Churchill’s selection.    Read more »
