Miguel Santiago Shows Over $214,000 Cash-on-Hand in Assembly Bid

(Editor’s Note: The above is the headline on a recently sent e-mail to Sacramento lobbyists by Santiago’s campaign.)

Miguel Santiago is running to succeed Assembly Speaker John Perez who employs Santiago as his district director. Nearly 59 percent of the registered voters in Perez’s 53rd Assembly District are Democrats like Perez and Santiago. Republican registration is 11 percent, a little less than half those voters who state no party preference.

The Democratic primary is June 3, 2014, more than 10 months away. Candidates have until March 7 , 2014 to officially declare. Those candidates wishing to avoid the $952.91 filing fee for the Assembly can submit signatures from 40 to 60 qualified district voters before February 20, 2014 — 209 days from now.

Says the Santiago campaign:

“Just released financial disclosure statements show Miguel Santiago off to a very strong start in his campaign for State Assembly, District 53.

“Democrat Miguel Santiago disclosed contributions of $216,236.47 and cash on hand of $214,334.18

“The filing covered the period 1/1/2013 through 6/30/13.  (It) can be viewed at: http://cal-access.ss.ca.gov/Campaign/Committees/Detail.aspx?id=1357866&view=general

” ‘Miguel Santiago has clearly established himself as the strong front runner,’ stated Parke Skelton, Santiago’s consultant.  ‘Miguel has an impressive background as an education leader, strong ties to the district as District Director for the current representative, Speaker of the Assembly John A. Pérez, outstanding endorsements and proven fundraising capabilities.’

“The primary election for this office will be held in June 2014, nearly a full year from now.

“Miguel Santiago is also the President of the Los Angeles Community College Board. He, his wife and their newborn child are residents of downtown Los Angeles. “
