No deal between the governor and the Legislature on closing an estimated $26 billion hole in the budget for the fiscal year that began July 1.

The state controller continued to pay more than 25 percent of the state’s $14 billion in bills for July with IOUs.

Sen. Dean Florez, a Fresno Democrat running for lieutenant governor in 2010, was offended by the GOP governor’s press secretary, Aaron McLear, who previously chided the Legislature for debating measures to create a state blueberry commission, redefine honey and regulate the purity of pomegranate juice rather than fix the budget mess. McLear insulted agriculture, Florez said.
