are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes. The Committee may accept contributions from individuals, unions, businesses, PACs and other committees. The Committee cannot accept contributions from foreign nationals, foreign corporations and registered lobbyists. There are no contribution limits on contributions except that contributions from committee controlled by state officeholders or candidates are limited to $3,300.

Elsewhere in the fundraising world, Gov. Schwarzenegger and former Controller and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Westly hosted a conference call last week to solicit money from trade groups and other Sacramento power hitters for the Common Cause initiative that strips lawmakers of the power to draw legislative district boundaries.

Backers need to gather 694,354 valid signatures by May 19. Watch for some odd couple alliances on this measure. The interest groups who back Democrats would love to get to the magic two-thirds vote in the Assembly. Democrats need to pick up eight more seats to reach 56. Competitive seats have tended to break Democratic.
